Location: Joe’s Movement Emporium

Afro House is in residency at Joe’s Movement Emporium: December 5-9, 2016

What if a man, struggling against being mechanical, could not accept his son as anything but a machine? Sent from a dying earth, General Ebon Kojo and Ra-7 have been ordered to “recolor” the distant and barren planet Beta-5. Upon their arrival to Beta-5, Ebon and Ra are confronted with unprecedented realities that transform them both.

In this one-man show, pianist and composer Scott Patterson uses acoustic piano, synth keyboards and sound design to weave together a story of space exploration, environmentalism, father-son relationships and social greed. Inspired by the music of Sun Ra and his film Space is the Place,Christina De Middel’s photobook Afronauts and Frances Bodomo’s film of the same name, Patterson imagines his own futuristic world, where sound and music bend the laws of physics and become instruments of creation and destruction.

Happy Hollandaise
By Tim Koenig
Directed by Michael Hartsfield
Produced by Maureen Rogers

Friday December 2, 2016 through Sunday December 18, 2016

Location: Laurel Mill Playhouse

All Claire Finley wants is the perfect Christmas. She’s hired the celebrated gourmet chef Vilma Hasenpfeffer to prepare her famous Hasenpfeffer Hollandaise Sauce for her dinner guests, the new vicar and his very pregnant wife, Mary. Unfortunately, however, the chef is late, the guests are early and there are burglars loose in the neighborhood. To top it all off, Claire’s father has been hit on the head (with the creche, no less!) and thinks he’s the leading man in all of the West End theatre productions of the last 30 years! With the help of her quirky brother George, Claire tries to keep everything together as it continues to unravel in this sidesplitting British farce reminiscent of Arsenic and Old Lace. But once the mayhem dies down and the mixed-up identities unscramble, the true Christmas spirit shines bright in a surprise ending, which involves transformation, forgiveness, and a beautiful new beginning.

Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service. Performances run weekends from Friday December 2, 2016 through Sunday December 18, 2016 with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission.
