Known for its comfortable, inviting space and great acoustics, the Publick Playhouse is one of the best performing arts venues in the greater Washington, DC area. Conveniently located less than half a mile from the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and close to I-495, the Playhouse serves as a popular venue for music and modern dance, musical theater, historical drama, educational programs and monthly events for seniors. Description: A series of fun, but serious vignettes, “Friend Request” explores the good and bad parts of social media and online culture. Technology can be great, but it also comes with some serious temptation sand pitfalls. Explore issues like cyber-bullying, healthy online behavior, and understanding differences between online friends and friends in real life. Help your student understand the danger and know how to practice healthy behavior online.

Recommended for grades 3-8. Curriculum Connections: Character Education, Anti-Bullying.

Description: One of the first true classics of American literature, this is an authentic retelling of Washington Irving’s wonderful story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. When Crane takes a new job as schoolmaster of Sleepy Hollow, he was expecting to have a simple life, but things get complicated very quickly! This tale is just spooky enough to delight any audience as the days get shorter, the air gets colder, and the nights turn long and dark. A perfect introduction to this literary classic.

Native Ghanaian Kofi Dennis offers an exhilarating and memorable performance of traditional music, storytelling, and dance. Through “call and response” songs, games, and drum rhythms on authentic instruments, Anansegro offers an engaging, first-hand exploration of West African cultural traditions. Students will be up and dancing with this lively artist in an unforgettable experience. The program addresses themes of cooperation, courage, hope, caring, and sharing.
