2017 Creative Kids Camp with the Greenbelt Recreation Department, biweekly Jun 19-Aug 11, 2017

CREATIVE KIDS CAMP Ages 6-12

Location: Greenbelt Community Center Gymnasium

The Cookie Caper

Campers spread their wings and soar at Creative Kids Camp, where the emphasis is on self-expression, creativity and fun! Each camp day is spent exploring: Acting and Theater, Singing and Music, Dancing and Movement, Ceramics and Visual Art,

In addition to daily creative activities, campers enjoy supervised free swim twice per week and daily outdoor recess. To balance all the excitement and help campers to rest and recharge, we have a quiet time after recess, during which older campers can read or play a quiet game and younger campers can hear a story read aloud. We participate in the public library’s summer reading program, and we also provide our own list of recommended books!

At the end of each session campers perform in a show for parents and other loved ones to come and see. In honor of Greenbelt’s upcoming 80th anniversary, our show this year is
The Cookie Caper, a delicious musical mystery. The play takes a group of campers on a scavenger hunt through the historic Greenbelt Community Center. During their search, they find a diary hidden by a girl in 1937 on the day Eleanor Roosevelt came to visit her school. The diary teaches the campers about what life was like during Greenbelt’s first year — and about the progress the town has made since then.

“My only love sprung from my only hate”

Join director Kate Magill Robinson and the Camp Encore troupe leaders as they delve into Shakespeare’s most iconic tragic love story.
