First Baptist Church of Glenarden presents The Uncut Coming of Christ, Dec 9-17

The First Baptist Church of Glenarden presents
The Uncut Coming of Christ
A Live Story from the Streets of Bethlehem
Written & Directed by Joshua Jenkins & Co-Directed & Original Music by Anthony Brown
December 9 – 17, 2017

Saturdays, Dec. 9 & 16 at 12pm & 6pm
Sundays, Dec. 10 & 17 at 6:30pm
Doors open one hour early for the fabulous Bethlehem marketplace, with live animals, biblical characters, activities, giveaways and more!

Free admission.

Description:
This timeless story, set more than 2,000 years ago, captures the birth of Christ and brings the town of Bethlehem to life! This free musical extravaganza displays the story of God’s redeeming love, told through comedy, dance and profound songs. Now in its seventh season, The Uncut Coming of Christ has become a favorite holiday family tradition and continues to add new twists each year. Visitors to the FBCG Worship Center are transported through time upon entering the Great Halls, which have been transformed into the Bethlehem marketplace.

Be sure to arrive one hour before the play to experience all the sights, sounds and smells. Have you ever wondered what life was like back then? Ever been curious about what the people wore or what they ate? You’ll find out during the fabulous pre-show production! Shepherds, Roman soldiers and regular townspeople will serve as your guide through the “city streets,” where you’ll see vendors, wares and much more.

In Galilee, a virgin named Mary was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph. An angel visited Mary one night and said she would be impregnated by the Holy Spirit, give birth to a son and name him Jesus. Mary couldn’t believe it, asking the angel, “How can this be?” The angel told her “Nothing is impossible with God.” The Uncut Coming of Christ puts a modern-day twist on these biblical events, bringing the timeless love story to life with vigor and vitality.

You’ll witness the love and respect between Mary and her fiancé, Joseph, who was less than thrilled at first when he learned his bride-to-be was with child. You’ll also see the Holy Spirit’s power and presence in their lives. With an abundance of original scores, The Uncut Coming of Christ takes the audience on a dramatic, fantastical journey through the streets of Bethlehem!

FBCG will be providing shuttles to The Uncut Coming of Christ performances at the Largo Town Center and New Carrollton Metro stations and the Bowie Seniors Center. See: http://fbcglenarden.org/uncut/ for more details.

Location: New Deal Cafe – 113 Centerway in historic Greenbelt, MD

19 is the dynamic and little-known story of Alice Paul, the suffragists and their fight to get women the right to vote — the 19th Amendment.

This special live production is performed by local award-winning theater, film and media company Through the 4th Wall. Original song, dance and spoken word bring to life the heroines and challenges of this historic effort. 19 highlights the work of playwrights Jennifer Schwed and Doug Bradshaw and the original music of Charlie Barnett.

Following the performance, the audience will have the opportunity to discuss the craft of this production with the playwrights and composer.

For the past 11 years, Reel and Meal and the New Deal Cafe have been mutually beneficial partners. Reel and Meal, 11 years ago, was instrumental in raising funds through its program, which were then used to pay the rent for the New Deal Cafe. Since 2007, the program has evolved as has the New Deal. Currently, volunteers cook and serve the vegan meal allowing the program to raise money to continue to support the New Deal.

Reel and Meal thanks the New Deal Cafe for 11 years of hosting its film program. Reel and Meal would also like to thank its loyal and always evolving audience and the Greenbelt community which has made Reel and Meal a longterm success. Additional thanks are owed to the Greenbelt News Review for their ongoing inclusion of our events in this weekly newspaper.

Thanks to all! We look forward to more years of community partnering, networking and highlighting issues impacting our society and planet, with all of its inhabitants.
