The Bowie Playhouse, owned by the City of Bowie and nestled in the back of Whitemarsh Park, is home to three companies. There are shows year round.

Travel north of City Hall and into Whitemarsh Park to attend plays and other events at the Bowie Playhouse. The Playhouse, established in the 1970s, was originally known as “Theater in the Woods” and is home to three resident theater companies. With these three outstanding companies the Bowie Playhouse maintains a busy schedule. As one show closes, another moves in. Most shows run three weeks, but musicals have a longer run keeping the Playhouse open weekends all year long.

The three companies provide a wide range of shows including musicals, British mysteries, slapstick comedy, and drama. The intimate 150-seat theater has state of the art lighting and sound run by a professional theater technical crew.
