In this story about an African American family trying to escape poverty in Chicago’s south side, we meet the Youngers as they await a $10,000 insurance check. Each family member has a different dream for how to use the money, and the stakes climb as they each try to get their own way. Exploring issues of race, class, value and love, this iconic and award-winning drama is as fresh today as when it was first produced in 1959.
