CREATIVE KIDS CAMP Ages 6-12

Location: Greenbelt Community Center Gymnasium

Hercules and Hippolyta

Campers spread their wings and soar at Creative Kids Camp, where the emphasis is on self-expression, creativity and fun! Each camp day is spent exploring: Acting and Theater, Singing and Music, Dancing and Movement, Ceramics and Visual Art,

In addition to daily creative activities, campers enjoy supervised free swim twice per week and daily outdoor recess. To balance all the excitement and help campers to rest and recharge, we have a quiet time after recess, during which older campers can read or play a quiet game and younger campers can hear a story read aloud. We participate in the public library’s summer reading program, and we also provide our own list of recommended books!

At the end of each session campers perform in a show for parents and other loved ones to come and see. Our camp show this summer is Hercules And Hippolyta, a musical adventure about history’s first super-heroes. In our play, Hercules meets Princess Hippolyta, owner of the magical golden belt, which can double any power. Together, they go on a quest to discover the true nature of heroism. Along the way, they rescue the noble titan Prometheus, defeat the bullying Big Boar, and capture the Golden Hind, an enchanted deer who can grant any wish. CAMP ENCORE Ages 13-17

Location: Greenbelt Community Center Gymnasium

HAMLET
“…hold, as twere, the mirror up to nature.”
by William Shakespeare

Join director Kate Magill Robinson and the Camp Encore troupe leaders as they tackle Shakespeare’s tragic masterpiece. Prince Hamlet, spurred on by his father’s vengeful ghost, takes a dark and winding path to discover whether the ghost’s shocking accusation of fratricide and usurpation is true. Hamlet’s stratagems roil the guilty conscience of his murderous uncle, confirming the ghost’s dreadful tale. Yet Hamlet hesitates to exact vengeance, as he grapples with the question of his own mortality and the price of truth. With a kingdom teetering in the balance, Hamlet’s quest overtakes him, ensnaring the innocent along with the guilty and, at the climax, bringing destruction to the royal house. At the end of the camp session, campers will present performances at the Greenbelt Arts Center. The performance schedule includes an evening performance on Thursday, July 11, at 7:00pm.

A four-week pass to the Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center is included with tuition.

• In fairness to fellow actors, please keep absences on other days to a minimum.
• Please schedule any medical or other appointments for the morning, so that your camper can attend important afternoon rehearsals.
