The Mouse That Roared is a political farce set in the mythical country of Grand Fenwick. This tiny country is facing bankruptcy, so their unique solution is to declare war on The United States of America in the hopes of receiving economic aid after they lose the war. Complications arise when the Grand Fenwick attack on the United States unexpectedly succeeds! Grand Fenwick wins the war, and the terms for peace must be negotiated by their young ruler. Although the novel on which the play is based was originally written during the Cold War, modern audiences will recognize elements of current events in this comedy.

We need some R&R! Not rest & relaxation, but risk and regeneration. Perhaps even rage & repair. There is no returning to what came before, so how can we fall into new possibilities, realities and ways of being? For this next season, how do we hold that “if no one goes first, how can anyone follow?” BlackLight 2023 is taking the leap into risking wrong, risking right, risking being loved and seen. In order to take these steps, how are we recovering and regenerating? We have lost so much. How can we find who we are and who we want to be? Join us for some much needed R&R.

Through three days of groundbreaking dance performances, inspiring keynote speeches, energizing movement workshops and intimate panel discussions, The Clarice’s BlackLight Summit aims to activate the unimagined possibilities in dance. It is a convening that envisions dance as a conduit to galvanize resilience and inventiveness, and in 2023 offers a combination of free and Pay What You Wish in-person events and free livestream events. Throughout the 2022–23 season, the BlackLight Summit will continue to foster community connection by facilitating a series of mentoring and professional development opportunities, conversations and performances.

November 18, 2022 at 7:30pm
November 19, 2022 at 2:30pm & 7:30pm

Following an award-winning season for BSU Theatre, Flyin’ West takes audiences back to the days of the Homestead Act and the founding of a Black community in Nicodemus, Kansas – a place of immense possibility, steered by the vision and fortitude of the Black female pioneers. Local director Angelisa Gillyard (Constellation Theatre, 1st Stage) joins with BSU senior stage management team Amari Chambers (Class 2023) and Malaysha Saboleh (Class 2023) to celebrate the resilience of ancestors and the strength of sisterhood as they confronted racism and encroaching opportunists who sought to undo the paradise they dreamed could be their future and their legacy.
