Orgullo is a mythical exploration of 7 legends surrounding the rise and fall of infamous Mexican President Santa Anna and his wild gum popping adventures defending against American “Manifest Destiny” and their seafaring, dessert raiding, lava walking imperialist forces at the height of the 1846-1848 invasion of Mexico. A part of the award winning 7 Deadly Sins Cycle.

The Maryland Opera Studio is dedicated to the future of opera. Preparing the next generation of great singers and offering performances ranging from classic repertoire to provocative new works, it is building contemporary audiences for opera and advancing the art form to sustain those audiences.

This musical is really about a man finding himself and his place in the world far later in life than maybe he had planned to. I really want this production to be a celebration of that journey to self-acceptance and self-actualization — no matter what time of our lives we’re at, we deserve to feel like we belong.
