Auditions for Frankenstein by the Bowie Community Theatre, Nov 6 & 7

Bowie Community Theatre announces auditions for “Frankenstein” adapted from novel by Mary Shelley and directed by Brian Douglas. Auditions will be held on Monday, November 6, and Tuesday, November 7, from 7:00pm – 9:30pm at the Bowie Playhouse, 16500 White Marsh Park Dr. in Bowie MD.

NOTICE: This production contains scenes which simulate intense violence and death, with victims that include women, a young boy, and a dog. Please give due consideration to this before agreeing to participate.

Performances March 9 – 25, 2018.

Set in nineteenth-century Switzerland, this classic tale of horror and suspense details the ill-fated experiments of young Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to fathom the secrets of life and death. Purchasing cadavers from two unsavory grave robbers, he gives life to a creature both hideous and touching—and so physically powerful and mentally twisted that he soon brings death or destruction to all who stand in his way. Adhering more closely to the original novel than did the famous motion picture versions, the play blends moments of brooding terror and sudden shock with questions of morality and the dangers of unrestrained scientific inquiry.

Actors will be grouped together and will read from sides. No monologue is required, but if you wish to do one, please keep it under two minutes. A headshot and resume are helpful but not required. Everyone’s photo will be taken at the audition. Please come prepared with a list of ALL possible conflicts between 11/13/2017 and 3/7/2018, including Christmas and other holidays. We must schedule rehearsals during a very busy time of year. Actors must be available for all performances. The play runs weekends from March 9 through March 25. It’s Christmas in Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies! Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities. It’s 24 hours before Christmas and the delightfully eccentric characters of Tuna attempt to cope with seasonal traumas such as the disaster prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard-decorating contest being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom.

Bowie Community Theatre announces auditions for “A Tuna Christmas” by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard. Auditions will be held on Monday, August 28, and Tuesday, August 29, from 7:00pm – 9:30pm at the Kenhill Center, 2614 Kenhill Dr. in Bowie MD. Call-backs, if needed, will be held Thursday, August 31.

The director will cast 2 to 6 men or women able to play characters of various ages and sexes. There are 22 characters in the play. It was originally written and played by 2 men. Actors are required to take on various personalities with quick costume changes as they exit and come back on stage. The director will determine the number of actors cast at auditions.

Performances are scheduled to run November 3-19, 2017.

Auditioners will be asked to do cold readings from the script. Please bring any conflicts you have for September through November, resume, and picture, if available. Auditions for “The Man Who Came To Dinner” will be held Monday, August 14th and Tuesday, August 15th 7:30 pm at The Bowie Playhouse (16500 Whitemarsh Park Drive Bowie, MD 20715) with call backs Thursday, August 17th at the New Carrollton Municipal Center (6016 Princess Garden Parkway New Carrollton, MD 20784). Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start time to sign in and fill out paperwork. No appointment needed. Auditions to consist of cold readings from the script. Rehearsal will also be at the Municipal Center.

Prince George’s Little Theatre at the Bowie Playhouse

Description: Sheridan Whiteside, critic, lecturer, wit, radio orator, intimate friend of the great and near great, met his Waterloo in the shape of a small piece of ice on the doorstep of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Stanley, of Mesalia, Ohio, while trekking across the country on his annual lecture tours. Result: the idol of the air waves rests until further notice in the home of the surprised Mr. and Mrs, Stanley. Possibility: Christmas may be postponed this year. So runs the lead article in the Christmas 1939 issue of Time magazine. Whiteside turns the Stanley household upside down, forcing everyone in town to cater to his egotistical demands. Meanwhile, his beloved secretary has given her notice after falling in love with a local reporter, and Whiteside must engage every weapon in his considerable arsenal of guile and manipulation to keep her in his employ—including blackmail, deceit, and the intervention of a femme fatale actress Lorraine Sheldon and the elegant British wit of playwright Beverly Carlton. A three-ring circus of machinations and celebrity appearances ensues.

Prince George’s Little Theatre at the Bowie Playhouse

Now an aspiring young architect in Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, “you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you”—so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. But his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless “nerd”—a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. And Rick stays on and on, his continued presence among Willum and his friends leading to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence — a dire development which, happily, is staved off by the surprising “twist” ending of the play.
