Story of the play: Based upon an African-American family’s dreams and experiences in the Washington Park Subdivision of Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. It chronicles their plight as they strive to emerge from the life they currently lead to a better status. This plight encompasses dreams accomplished and dreams deferred, racial discrimination inside and outside of the African American race, the importance of love and family and growth both internal and external. This play is the backdrop to what happens next once the Younger’s move out of their current home into the play’s sequel, Clybourne Park, which just closed at GAC.

PARENTAL WARNING: Parents strongly cautioned, due to language and stage gore. This musical is not appropriate for children.

Based on the cult classic movie “Evil Dead”, which tells the story of five friends who take a vacation to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an army of zombies who start turning them all into demons. But it’s a musical, so there’s singing and dancing.

The “Splatter Zone” is a specially-priced seating area, right up front, where you can sit to feel the blood of the undead spray as Ash takes them on in battle.

With Steven Baird, Michael Brick, Winard Britt, Shammara Clarkson, David Colton, Heather Harris, Laura Kavinski, Shannon Riley, and Stephen Yednock.

Ticket prices: $30 Splatter Zone, $22 General Admission, $18 Students/Seniors/Military, $14 Youth (12 and under with adult)

CAMP ENCORE Ages 13-17

Macbeth
Something wicked this way comes…

Kate Magill Robinson, director of Camp Encore’s terrific productions of As You Like It in 2013 and Lotsa Lazzi! in 2014, returns this summer to lead teen actors through Shakespeare’s lyrical tale of murder and madness.

An ensemble-based script, created just for this camp, will use Shakespeare’s original language to tell the story of the noble warrior Macbeth and his ambitious wife, who tread a dark path and trade their souls to gain the crown of Scotland. Our production, performed in the Greenbelt Arts Center on July 15 and 16, will also use movement, music and stage combat to tell this story of magic, power and destiny.

A four-week pass to the Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center is included with tuition.

Some scheduling items to know before registering:
The camp extends until 6:00 pm on July 16, to make it easier for parents to attend the show! Attendance is mandatory from July 13 through July 16 (the dates of our final rehearsals and shows). In fairness to fellow actors, please keep absences on other days to a minimum. Please try to schedule medical appointments in the morning. Rehearsals are in the afternoon. Vacation plans or schedule conflicts? Please contact Kate before registering at katemagill3@gmail.com to discuss how your teen actor can best participate.

CREATIVE KIDS CAMP Ages 6-12

Hidden Lands

Campers spread their wings and soar at Creative Kids Camp, where the emphasis is on self-expression, creativity and fun! Each camp day is spent exploring: Acting and Theater, Singing and Music, Dancing and Movement, Ceramics and Visual Art.

Creative Kids Camp
Greenbelt Community Center – 15 Crescent Road*
Ages 6-12
In addition to daily creative activities, campers enjoy supervised free swim twice per week and daily outdoor recess. To balance all the excitement and help campers to rest and recharge, we have a quiet time after recess, during which older campers can read or play a quiet game and younger campers can hear a story read aloud.

Instead of going on field trips, our campers perform in a show for parents and others to come and see.

Our show this year is Hidden Lands, which tells the story of three schoolchildren who are transported by a magic ring to an enchanted island, where they meet the powerful Phoenix and help a down-hearted prince. Imagination and sharing are the true magic they discover – and your camper will, too.
