2017 Camp Encore presents Romeo and Juliet at the Greenbelt Arts Center, July 12-13

Camp Encore presents:
Romeo and Juliet
“My only love sprung from my only hate”
By William Shakespeare
Directed and adapted by Kate Magill Robinson

Join director Kate Magill Robinson and the Camp Encore troupe leaders as they delve into Shakespeare’s most iconic tragic love story. Rival gangs – the Capulets and the Montagues – patrol the streets of Verona, ripping the city into factions as they play out an age-old vendetta. Against the backdrop of this epic feud, Romeo Montague crashes a Capulet party with his friends, and there he first sets eyes upon the beautiful Juliet, the heir to the Capulet family. The star-crossed lovers attempt to live out the passion of their hasty romance and secret marriage, amidst the violence of their families’ feud. But fate, fortune, and a series of cataclysmic circumstances steer them off-course toward their inescapably tragic end.

Shakespeare’s Women in Their Own Words
Adapted from the works of William Shakespeare

From women’s eyes this doctrine I derive:
They are the ground, the books, the academes
From whence doth spring the true Promethean fire.

Though the men take the title, the women oft steal the show. From Beatrice’s sharp wit to Juliet’s broken heart, the fairer sex have just as much to say as their male counterparts. Adapted from the works of William Shakespeare, this new piece laces together the voices of Shakespeare’s most memorable women.

Ticket prices: $22 General Admission, $20 Students/Seniors/Military, $12 Youth (12 and under with adult). Buy tickets here.

One-Act Play Festival

Location: Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt. In the Drama Room (004).

April 27 & 28, 2017

At Roosevelt every Spring, we hold our One Act Festival, in which we showcase many different One Acts. Each One Act is about 10 to 15 minutes, and they are all student directed (and in some cases, even student written). They are a fun opportunity for students to experiment with the different aspects of putting on a play, and get a closer look at how many things actually go into making a play.
