Felon: An American Washi Tale

A solo performance that begins with the pages of a book being slid into a cell, traverses stoves made of toilet paper, kites from a father, handwritten affidavits, legal complaints, handmade paper, certificates of pardon, an a 1,000 squares fashioned from the clothing of men serving life sentences.

Join us in welcoming back to PGCC distinguished alumni Reginald Dwayne Betts. Dwayne is the founder and director of the Freedom Reads, a first-of-its-kind organization that empowers people through literature to confront what prison does to the spirit. A poet and lawyer, he is the author of four books. A 2021 MacArthur Fellow, his latest collection of poetry, Felon, was awarded the American Book Award and an NAACP Image Award.

PGCC Center for Performing Arts builds on last years “Funny Fools of April” with “Laughs from Largo”! Saturday May 21st at the Grand Theater. Def Comedy vet, Royale Watkins, returns with an even bigger more hilarious line-up, including Tony Roberts, Rudy Rush, Just Nesh and a surprise special guest!

Learn the acting technique Winston Duke says is essential for aspiring actors! Lucid Body is a somatic process for actors that teaches how to stay present in your creative process and make acting choices that are dynamic, truthful, and alive.

Please wear comfortable movement clothes and bring a yoga mat, if you have one — a limited number of yoga mats will be provided. You may like to have a journal for self-reflection. No prior acting or movement experience is required.
