A good hearted, guileless child of nature is hauled before the magistrate on a charge of murder, having been found unconscious, nude, and clutching a gun, with her lover dead beside her. What is most shocking to the magistrate is the complete frankness with which she describes her life as a parlor maid and her affairs with both the dead chauffeur and her aristocratic employer. She is so ingenious that the magistrate, at the risk of his juridical neck, decides that she could not have committed the murder. “A bubbling, saucy comedy… A light, tasty soufflé” ~ N.Y. Times.

Auditions on Monday, September 8, Tuesday, September 9 at Bowie Playhouse (our performance space) in Bowie MD from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Location: White Marsh Park on Rt. 3 in Bowie, MD – 16500 White Marsh Park, Bowie, MD 20715. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Performances are three weekends, August 29 – September 13, 2014

Friday, August 29, September 5 and 12 at 8 p.m. Saturday, August 30, September 6 and 13 at 8 p.m. Sunday, August 31 and September 7 at 2 p.m.

Description: Fifteen-year-old Eugene Jerome narrates the trials and experiences of his family, fighting the hard times and sometimes each other in 1937 Brooklyn during the heart of the Depression. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life which includes a formidable mother, an overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche and her two young daughters you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style.

Auditions for “Brighton Beach Memoirs” will be held Monday May 5, and Tuesday May 6, beginning at 7:00 pm at the Bowie Playhouse, 16500 White Marsh Park, Bowie, MD 20715. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Thursday, May 8, at the New Carrollton Municipal Center, 6016 Princess Garden Parkway, New Carrollton, MD 20784. Rehearsals will begin mid-June at the New Carrollton Municipal Center. The production will run for eight performances from Friday, August 29 through Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Bowie Playhouse.

Note: There are four roles for teen/young adult actors and three roles for adults.

It will be directed by John (“Jack”) Degnan and coproduced by Keith Brown and Estelle Miller. Auditions and rehearsals are held at the New Carrollton Municipal Center, 6016 Princess Garden Parkway, New Carrollton, MD 20784 (directions). The production will run for nine performances from Friday, May 2 through Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Bowie Playhouse. The director, John Degnan, is looking for appropriately aged actors for the following roles. Henry, Dickie, Pamela, and Muriel are middle-aged contemporaries (mid-40s to early 60s) while Justin and Louise are in their 20s.
