Death Ahoy

Cruise Director Sunny Sails had her own way of handling the passengers on the good ship Legendary Carnival. Her two decades of life on the Caribbean had seen her promoted from busgirl to the person whom everyone depends upon to get things done.

The past eight years had been spent making sure that passengers were happy and content as they enjoyed the amenities of a world-class cruise ship. It was indeed strange, then, that her body was found early one warm morning tucked away near a lifeboat on Deck 5. At first, everyone was certain it was a tragic accident – an unexpected slip on a wet deck, or an inadvertent misstep.

Yet, the more that was discovered about the death, the more apparent it became that Sails met her demise in an untimely fashion. Who would have wanted to do in such a maritime fixture? After all, stories of Sunny’s many adventures were recounted by cruise ship employees from Fort Lauderdale to Panama.

Some of those tales, if true, would make an experienced sailor blush. Her many encounters with the rich and famous aboard the Legendary Carnival would provide fascinating reading for someone who might want to learn the real ins and outs of a life aboard a luxury ocean liner.

Although the official investigation of the death would have to wait until the ship docked, a select group of on-board sleuths could provide an early insight into what could have happened to turn a sunny event into a cloudy affair.

Murder Most Green

This special holiday murder mystery takes place in the City of Blarney in your state. Your guests are invited to a St. Patrick’s Day party to honor Patrick Flaherty, owner of Flaherty’s True Green Plant Nursery.

When they arrive, they find out that Flaherty died the previous night after a get-together that celebrated the nursery’s centennial year. Instead of having a party, your guests will be attending his wake. Family members and acquaintances pay their respects to Flaherty and, in the process, drop hints that Flaherty’s death might be more than accidental. An undercover member of the local police force, who believes that foul play is prevalent, leads the homicide investigation.

Flaherty’s True Green Plant Nursery has been serving the Blarney area for the last 100 years since Pader Flaherty, the nursery’s founder, built a greenhouse to grow plants that thrived in his native Ireland.

Through the years, operations expanded and, ten years ago, Pader’s grandson, Patrick, became majority owner of a business that is still family-run. Today, Flaherty’s is a major producer of shamrocks, supplying the entire state with the plant, especially for “the wearin’ of the green.”

Although rumors persist that all is not well, the family has maintained an outward calm, denying all rumors of a rift. The business seemed to be going well until Patrick Flaherty’s body was found in the pond at the nursery.

Love Writes a Deadly Verse

Love is in the air at the Valentine’s Day meeting of the Poets Turntable as the group of amateur and professional writers focuses on amore, liebe – yes, LOVE! Romance abounds when each member rises, in turn, to thrill the audience with similes, metaphors, and word pictures that make even the coldest hearts beat faster.

Who could keep a dry eye as words of passion flow from the lips of the talented troupe of winsome wordsmiths? Surely, the night would be one when emotions take the front row and thoughts of ill will are left dangling in the wind. After all, the spoken word is the expression of deep-seated feelings.

But, in the middle of this memorable assemblage, one of the poets staggers to the stage and, after uttering a few cryptic words, is overtaken by death. Someone has done in a fellow Turntable member in the midst of one of the year’s most sentimental events.

Who would spoil this spectacular meeting with such a dastardly deed? And, was this an act that had been planned, or simply a crime of passion at a moment when true feelings were allowed to flow?

But in a very real sense, it’s time for poetic justice as everyone gathers to investigate the death and to find the clandestine culprit who turned Valentine’s Day into a bad rhyme.

Murder Plays A Sour Note

It’s New Year’s Eve at The Pitz, the city’s most famous (or is it infamous?) supper club. The usual mix of customers, some noteworthy and some notorious, decorate the tables that surround the crowded dance floor. Everyone in the gregarious group of rarified revelers hoists a glass of champagne and readies their noise makers preparing to celebrate the arrival of the year 1955.

As the clock strikes midnight, Lou Gumbardo and his band, “The Loyal Geraniums,” begin the familiar strains of Auld Lang Syne. The moment has arrived – a new year that promises to continue the post-war boom of the Eisenhower administration.

Suddenly, without warning, the club is in darkness and, amid the rumbling of the assembled guests, three shots ring out. When the lights go on again, it’s deadly obvious that the darkened room provided a killer with the opportunity to put a strategic bullet hole into a surprised victim. Someone had dictated the dastardly demise of an individual whose brief glimpse of the new year proved to be a fatal attraction.

Twas the Night Before Murder

The mansion of greeting-card magnate Norton Pole was lit up like a Christmas tree. And, well it should be on the eve before the annual holiday. The festive occasion was a gathering of a few relatives and business associates, all celebrating another year of record profits for Polar Cards.

The assembled group knew everything that could be known about Pole, from north to south, and from east to west. What they didn’t know was that, over dinner, Pole would make an announcement that could change their holiday seasons forever. At least, it could’ve had not someone decided to take fate to task and end Pole’s career permanently. For, on Christmas morning, his body was found lying under the huge tree, a startling contrast to the meticulously wrapped gifts that Pole had hand-picked for each of his dinner guests.

But, who would do such a thing? After all, Pole’s passion was to produce the perfect paeans to postal patrons who patiently perused each massaged message. Why would someone want to end such a lucid life? Was it Pole’s news that had triggered such a rude response? Or, had someone taken the opportunity to pay back a dubious debt and carry out a vendetta that had been held inside for years?
