Four Score and Seven Years Ago

Lemuel has escaped slavery in Georgia and finds a new life in Gettysburg, but his ideas about the North and the South are challenged when he unexpectedly befriends Jacob, a young Confederate soldier. Understanding and empathy combat racial prejudice when these young men realize that fighting back is not the path to peaceful resolution, and that each has much to teach each other about bravery and loyalty. Gary Blackman, ArtsPower’s producer, says “By encouraging young people to see history through the eyes of characters who endured and succeeded despite facing tremendous adversity, children are able see new possibilities in their own lives.”

Our 2014 Greenbelt Youth Circus production, Game On!, was a smash hit! Now, join us in 2015 as we present our next full-length youth circus show: Time Warp. Students under age 9 admitted with Director’s approval. Contact: Greg May at gregorymay@verizon.net.

Attendance in the final week and at all four performances is mandatory to enroll in the Greenbelt Youth Circus. Campers with limited absences in the first weeks may enroll, but their participation in the shows may be limited. Previous circus camp experience is not required, but new campers especially should commit to daily attendance all four weeks. SUMMER CIRCUS CAMP Ages 8-13, 3 sessions, June 22 – August 21, 2015

Join former Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus performer Greg May for a fun-filled session of circus skills training. Learn juggling, stilt-walking, unicycling, balance boards, rolling globe, partner acrobatics, clown gags, and single-point and fabric trapeze.
The development of circus skills translates into immediate life advantages: balance, hand-eye coordination, public presentation, teamwork, creativity, and how to slip on a banana peel without getting hurt! Campers are safely taught at their individual skill levels. On the last day of each camp session, campers will demonstrate their new skills in a show for parents and other guests. CAMP ENCORE Ages 13-17

Macbeth
Something wicked this way comes…

Kate Magill Robinson, director of Camp Encore’s terrific productions of As You Like It in 2013 and Lotsa Lazzi! in 2014, returns this summer to lead teen actors through Shakespeare’s lyrical tale of murder and madness.

An ensemble-based script, created just for this camp, will use Shakespeare’s original language to tell the story of the noble warrior Macbeth and his ambitious wife, who tread a dark path and trade their souls to gain the crown of Scotland. Our production, performed in the Greenbelt Arts Center on July 15 and 16, will also use movement, music and stage combat to tell this story of magic, power and destiny.

A four-week pass to the Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center is included with tuition.

Some scheduling items to know before registering:
The camp extends until 6:00 pm on July 16, to make it easier for parents to attend the show! Attendance is mandatory from July 13 through July 16 (the dates of our final rehearsals and shows). In fairness to fellow actors, please keep absences on other days to a minimum. Please try to schedule medical appointments in the morning. Rehearsals are in the afternoon. Vacation plans or schedule conflicts? Please contact Kate before registering at katemagill3@gmail.com to discuss how your teen actor can best participate.

CREATIVE KIDS CAMP Ages 6-12

Hidden Lands

Campers spread their wings and soar at Creative Kids Camp, where the emphasis is on self-expression, creativity and fun! Each camp day is spent exploring: Acting and Theater, Singing and Music, Dancing and Movement, Ceramics and Visual Art.

Creative Kids Camp
Greenbelt Community Center – 15 Crescent Road*
Ages 6-12
In addition to daily creative activities, campers enjoy supervised free swim twice per week and daily outdoor recess. To balance all the excitement and help campers to rest and recharge, we have a quiet time after recess, during which older campers can read or play a quiet game and younger campers can hear a story read aloud.

Instead of going on field trips, our campers perform in a show for parents and others to come and see.

Our show this year is Hidden Lands, which tells the story of three schoolchildren who are transported by a magic ring to an enchanted island, where they meet the powerful Phoenix and help a down-hearted prince. Imagination and sharing are the true magic they discover – and your camper will, too.
