Highlighted events include the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), Brown v. Board of Education, Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and more. Prince George’s Publick Playhouse.

This workshop series helps directors, choreographers, dancers, and actors learn the science, strategies, and secrets of stage lighting in rented venues. Starting with the basics of stage lighting systems, this residency takes the participants through all the skills and knowledge to identify and select instruments, read light plots and paperwork, hang and focus instruments and create looks and cues. Particular attention will be paid to working within the confines of resident and repertory plots. Safety and professional standards are emphasized.

This compelling drama is a tribute to Maggie Walker, a great American woman from Richmond, Virginia, who helped establish and organize the first civil rights strike by African American students and became the nation’s first woman bank president. Starting her work at the order of St. Luke, a national savings group formed to pay the burial expenses of poor African Americans, Maggie Walker became a powerful force in civil rights. Through this production, students form a deeper understanding of Maggie Walker and the times in which she lived.

Participants will work with fabric, paper, glue, scissors, thread, needle, and several accessories to create magical characters that focus through breathing.
