A little boy unwillingly exiting childhood wishes he could live in Toyland instead of the real world, and he gets his wish! But living with nursery rhymes come to life, from Little Bo Peep to Humpty Dumpty, isn’t as much fun as it sounds…

We’re looking for actors 18 and under to fill our world of Toyland! Bring a verse from a song and be ready to read from the script.

Auditions for A Visit From Scarface by Greenbelt Arts Center, Oct 10 & 11

Auditions for A Visit From Scarface will be held at the Greenbelt Arts Center on Monday, October 10, and Tuesday October 11 at 7:30. Call-backs if needed will be Wednesday, October 12.

The Story: The year is 1932 and the famous Hollywood writer Ben Hecht has just finished his screenplay for a movie produced by Howard Hughes called SCARFACE, loosely based on the real life story of Al Capone. Hecht’s agent shows up at his Hollywood apartment to get the script but it’s missing! Capone has sent a couple of his associates to have a little “talk” about the script with Ben. The action and dialog flies faster than bullets as Hecht tries to get the script back while dodging the gangsters, his agent, a blond starlet, a woman from the movie censor board, a drunk neighbor and the house detective.

All Claire Finley wants is the perfect Christmas. She’s hired the celebrated gourmet chef Vilma Hasenpfeffer to prepare her famous Hasenpfeffer Hollandaise Sauce for her dinner guests, the new vicar and his very pregnant wife, Mary. Unfortunately, however, the chef is late, the guests are early and there are burglars loose in the neighborhood. To top it all off, Claire’s father has been hit on the head (with the creche, no less!) and thinks he’s the leading man in all of the West End theatre productions of the last 30 years! With the help of her quirky brother George, Claire tries to keep everything together as it continues to unravel in this sidesplitting British farce reminiscent of Arsenic and Old Lace. But once the mayhem dies down and the mixed-up identities unscramble, the true Christmas spirit shines bright in a surprise ending, which involves transformation, forgiveness, and a beautiful new beginning.

Venus Theatre will hold auditions for Soft Revolution
Monday, September 26, 2016 through Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Auditioning the part of 23 year old Shafana, a Muslim Australian Biology Student.

This is a character in Venus Theatre’s 58th woman empowering production. Soft Revolution is a world premiere play by Australian playwright Alana Valentine.

It rehearses Mid October through Mid November in the evenings and runs November 17- Dec 11, ThFrSt at 8 and Sun’s at 3.

Auditioning Monday, Sept 26, Tuesday Sept 27, and Wednesday Sept 28. Please bring a prepared contemporary monologue and plan for a cold reading and possible movement exercise.

SOFT REVOLUTION by Alana Valentine –
What do you do when you profoundly disagree with someone you love?
At the heart of Soft Revolution: Shafana and Aunt Sarrinah is the story of a young Australian-born Muslim woman and an intergenerational clash with her own Aunt. Based on interviews with Afghani/ Australian Muslim women and produced with the support of a large number of Muslim women from a diversity of Muslim cultures in Australia, this play will compel audiences with its portrait of women who are articulate, highly educated and deeply spiritual. University student Shafana turns to the religion of her heritage for answers after a terrorist attack, resulting in a deep experience of faith and a controversial decision to wear the hijab. But for her Aunt Sarrinah, also a devout Muslim but old enough to regret the changes in her Afghan homeland, the hijab represents both a world from which she has escaped and her fears about the new world she has embraced. Above all, this play is a startling meditation on the clash between individual freedom and cultural context, experienced through two tender and fiercely drawn female characters.

“The Tin Woman”, a dramedy by Sean Grennan, will be a regional premier and PGLT’s second production of the 2016-17 season. It will be directed by Estelle Miller and produced by Roy Peterson.

Auditions for “The Tin Woman” will be held Monday, September 26th, and Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, at the New Carrollton Municipal Center, our rehearsal space. Synopsis: Instead of relishing life after her heart transplant, Joy enters a downward spiral, unsure whether she truly deserves a second chance. Meanwhile, Alice and Hank mourn the loss of their son, Jack, whose heart was used to save Joy. At a friend’s urging, Joy tracks down Jack’s family to find closure. But are Alice, Hank, and their daughter Sammy ready to accept Jack’s death? Based on a true story, The Tin Woman uses humor and pathos to explore loss, family, and what it means to be given new life.

Requirements: Cold reading at Director’s discretion and readings from script. Bring any conflicts you have during the weeks beginning October 12th through January opening.
