Set in the year 2093, this theatre work follows Davu, a young black man, through the ruins of a futuristic African-American history museum. There, Davu encounters androids who help him uncover a past unrealized, as they reenact stories of both the heroism and the destruction of Davu’s predecessors. The Final Genocide is a story of the possibilities and dangers faced by black men in America.

This event is part of NextLOOK. In partnership with Joe’s Movement Emporium, NextLOOK supports the development of new music, plays, dance and other experiences by regionally-based performing artists. Responsive Wild
Choreography by Krissy Harris

Responsive Wild considers and questions notions of womanhood and femininity. Inspired by family history, rock and roll, and physics concepts, Harris investigates these ideas through highly physical, bold and expansive movement. The work is in conversation with feminist theories and reveals a complex interrelationship of the inside/outside body and its potential for energetic expression.

Ghost Bride
Choreography by Rose Xinran Qi

Ghost Bride is based on the Asian tradition of a ghost marriage, when a man dies early in life and his family recruits a young woman to marry him in spirit. Through a combination of movements derived from postmodern dance and classical Chinese dance, this work conveys a story of revolution for women’s rights through time and place. Qi evokes the Chinese feminine form Shenyun (bearing) through breath control in order to communicate the internal emotion behind specific movements.

The Revenger’s Tragedy at Greenbelt Arts Center, Oct 30-31, Online

The Revenger’s Tragedy
by Anonymous circa 1605
directed by Jaki Demarest

Performances Friday and Saturday, October 30 & 31

By Greenbelt Arts Center, Online.

The Revenger’s Tragedy is a darkly comic masterpiece by an unknown writer. Just in time for Halloween, we have a Jacobean revenge tragedy with vivid and muscular prose, Hamlet without the indecision. A little touch of Tarantino in the night, with intrigue, murder, mayhem, infidelity, a poisoned skull, a mistaken execution, a battle royale with the improbable weapon of a severed head, and a twist ending that manages to subvert all the tropes and expectations.

Notice: this play contains adult themes and references to sexual violence.
