Winner of both Tony and Drama Desk awards, this musical features an eclectic ensemble of tween characters who vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and heartfelt angst, these adolescents spell their way through a series of esoteric words in a quest to avoid the soul-crushing, pout-inducing “ding” of the bell which signals a mistake and necessitates a quick exit from the competition. With it’s fast-paced and wildly funny, yet poignant, script and a truly fresh score, this bee is a riotous ride complete with audience participation.

Shots are fired in a school house, and the world seems to stop. A stunned community — teachers, parents, friends, families of the victims and the perpetrators — must find a way to keep living their lives. This lyrical and potent drama explores the aftermath of a school shooting in an Amish community, and the path of forgiveness and compassion forged in its wake. This play was inspired by the tragic 2006 shooting at an Amish school in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Inspired by Neil Simon’s early career experience as a junior writer for Your Show of Shows, the play focuses on Sid Caesar-like Max Prince, the star of a weekly comedy-variety show circa 1953, and his staff, including Simon’s alter-ego Lucas Brinkman, who maintains a running commentary on the writing, fighting, and wacky antics which take place in the writer’s room.

Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French. Performances run weekends from Friday February 17, 2017 through Sunday March 12, 2017 with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission. Admission for students (12 and under), active duty military and seniors (65 and over) is $15. Tickets can be purchased here. As the star of his own musical autobiography, comedian/musician/storyteller Ahamefule J.Oluo is electrifying. Part experimental pop opera for 17-piece orchestra and part comedic storytelling piece, Now I’m Fine is compellingly energetic, blending original music with darkly comic personal monologues about illness, despair and regeneration. A virtuosic performance by vocalist okanomodé further illuminates this deeply relatable story that ranges from epic to intimate. Oluo’s storytelling was recently featured on This American Life. He is the founder of the hard-jazz quartet Industrial Revelation, and has collaborated with Macklemore, Das Racist, Hey Marseilles and many others.
