Zerkalo Musical Theater’s brings their rendition of Oscar Wilde’s “The Star Child” to the Mt. Rainier, MD community

The “Star Child” or “What makes a person truly beautiful” comes to Joe’s free of charge for all children

Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 4:00pm

Location: Joe’s Movement Emporium

Sunday Feb. 7, 2016 at 4 pm Zerkalo Musical Theater’s theatrical music and dance production, “The Star Child” based on the story by the famous English author Oscar Wilde, comes to Joe’s. As part of Joe’s mission to present accessible and affordable arts experiences to the community, Joe’s has partnered with the McLean, VA based Russian company to offer their free of charge to children. Adult tickets are $5, all children 12 and under are welcome for free. An adult must accompany all children. Tickets are limited.

Joe’s own Arts Education Director LaTanya Robinson introduced Zerkalo (“mirror” in Russian) Musical Theater’s founder and director Alexey and Olga Predit to Joe’s Movement Emporium back in September of 2015. The theater group and Joe’s partnered to bring their winter production of “The Star Child” to Joe’s community at a significantly reduced price. In order to make productions like this work, Joe’s is reliant on loyal donors whose dollars ensure arts education has a home a Joe’s. Joe’s will have an opportunity for donations at the event.

About “The Star Child”

Zerkalo Musical Theater first presented the Star Child in Russian at the 5th International Festival of the Russian Speaking Children’s Theaters. Our actors won prizes for the best male and female lead roles. The Theater won the nomination for the best expression of humanistic values. The script along with the original Russian songs was translated into English almost entirely by the young actors.

This story is about the Star-Child whose beauty has caused him to grow proud, cruel, and selfish. He denies that an ugly beggar woman is his mother. Learning he is wrong, he vows to search for her throughout the world. This story is about transformative power of determination, love, and compassion.

Tickets: $5 for adults, children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. For more info, visit the website or call 301-699-1819.

This Broadway hit tells the story of Philadelphia’s wealthy Lord family as they get ready for the wedding of Tracy Lord, a headstrong and spoiled daughter of the privileged. A merry mix up of who’s who at the house is just the beginning as reports try to get the story and the bride tries to find her way to a normal life. The audience gets to find out who she eventually walks down the aisle with! Katherine Hepburn starred in both the Broadway plan and its film adaptation, and in 1956 it was adapted into an MGM musical film, High Society, with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Louis Armstrong.
