This two-act dramedy traces the historically significant relationship among Abraham Lincoln, his very closest friend Joshua Fry Speed, and his law partner William H. (Billy) Herndon, from 1837 to 1891 (26 years after the Lincoln assassination). Both Speed and Herndon played important roles in the legacy of the 16th president. Oh yes, the Springfield Girls also have their say. And the boys even help one another on their roads to marriage.

In the small Mississippi town of Brookhaven, a few days before the Fourth of July. Carnelle Scott (known locally as “Miss Hot Tamale”) is rehearsing furiously for the Miss Firecracker Contest—hoping that a victory will salvage her tarnished reputation and allow her to leave town in a blaze of glory. The unexpected arrival of her cousin Elain, a former Miss Firecracker winner, and her eccentric brother, Delmount, leads to a denouement of unparalleled hilarity, compassion and moving lyricism.

Performances run weekends from Friday June 26, 2015 through Sunday July 12, 2015 with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission. Clarissa, the second wife of Henry Hailsham Brown, is adept at spinning tales of adventure for their bored diplomatic circle. When a murder takes place in her drawing room she finds live drama much harder to cope with, especially as she suspects the murderer might be her young stepdaughter Pippa. Worse still, the victim is the man who broke up Henry’s first marriage! Clarissa’s fast talking places her in some hair raising experiences, as she comes to learn that the facts are much more terrifying than fiction.
