Homeward Bound is a rollicking musical based on The Odyssey by Homer. It tells the parallel stories of history’s most resourceful couple, Odysseus and Penelope. In his quest to return home after the Trojan War, the wily Odysseus surmounts challenges on land, at sea, and in the underworld. Meanwhile, shrewd Penelope must outmaneuver the Ithacan patriarchy to preserve her position, her independence, and her home. In addition to the questing hero and the besieged heroine, this fast-moving story features a runaway prince, scheming suitors, enchantresses, monsters, cannibals, giants, ghosts, a magic veil, a deadly whirlpool, and a shipwreck. Join us and help tell the tale that has enthralled human beings for 2800 years: An epic adventure, a domestic comedy, and an enduring love story.

The Women of Lockerbie
by Deborah Brevoort
Directed by: Estelle Miller
Produced by: Andy Negri

March 1 – 17, 2019

Location: Bowie Community Theatre at the Bowie Playhouse

The Women of Lockerbie takes place seven years after the 1988 disaster in which an American airliner was destroyed over Lockerbie, Scotland, apparently by a terrorist bomb. The Livingstons have come to Lockerbie for a memorial service that is being held for the families of the victims. They meet the women of Lockerbie who are determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love by washing and returning the clothes to the victims’ families. The Women of Lockerbie is a powerful and moving poetic drama—an affirmation about how the human spirit triumphs over evil.

Nick has just returned to the stage for a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream after a year’s hiatus after a terrible accident. However, the memories of his past both haunt and meld with his present, as he is caught between two productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream: One with the love of his life before the accident and one in the cold lonely present. As he struggles to make sense of his own insecurities and doubts, his own memories force him to make a choice: cling the past or have the courage to move on and begin to recover.
