Auditions for Almost Maine at the Greenbelt Arts Center, Oct 16 & 17

Greenbelt Arts Center announces auditions for:

Almost, Maine
Directed by Bob Kleinberg
October 16 & 17, 2017.

Auditions for Almost, Maine to be performed at the Greenbelt Arts Center in January/ February 2018, will be held at the Greenbelt Community Center in Room 114, on October 16 and 17 at 7pm, with callbacks if necessary on October 19.

Performances are scheduled to run January 26 – February 17, 2018.

Location: Greenbelt Arts Center

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. In this whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance, knees are bruised, hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.

Almost, Maine is comprised of 8 vignettes about love and the various emotions that can accompany it. These vignettes involve the various townspeople of the imaginary town of Almost, Maine, located in the wide open spaces of northern Maine, near Canada.

There are no specific characters to describe. This is an ensemble cast, and each cast member will play at least two separate roles. No accents please.

We are looking for 4 men and 4 women in their 30’s and 40’s to play the townspeople of Almost, Maine. Note: All roles are non-union and unpaid.

The show will be performed 4 weekends from January 26 – February 17, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM and Sunday matinees at 2PM at the Greenbelt Arts Center.

For more information, please contact director Bob Kleinberg at bob.kleinberg@gmail.com, or see http://www.greenbeltartscenter.org/Default.asp#audition

The Weir at Hard Bargain, Oct 6-21

The Weir at Hard Bargain, Oct 6-21

THE WEIR
By Conor McPherson
Directed by Brooke L. Howells
October 6-21, 2017
Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00pm

Location: Hard Bargain Players

In a small bar called The Weir in a rural town in Ireland, three local men are settling down for the night, enjoying good beer and company. Their normal routine is shaken up when their friend Finland enters the bar and introduces them to Valerie, an attractive woman from Dublin who has just moved into an old haunted house in the town. As the night (and the amount of liquor) progresses, each local from the bar starts to tell a tale of ghostly happenings in the town. What starts as innocent braggadocio between the men turns into a real fright when Valerie reveals a real, haunted tale of her own from the past. Examining chances of missed opportunity and the loneliness that results in it, The Weir is a haunting play with its roots in Irish folklore.

Tickets for Hard Bargain Players performances are $12 for adults, $10 for students, seniors and members of the Alice Ferguson Foundation.
