Here for the first time is a stage version of the original story of Bambi written by Austrian novelist Felix Salten in the 1920s. Bambi: A Life in the Woods is an eloquent and haunting tale of growing up in a superbly theatrical and sensitive work of theatre, appealing to children and adults alike. Bambi becomes heir to his father, the great prince. After Bambi encounters and masters for the first time the novel feelings of love, fear, loneliness and independence, he comes to understand that all of Earth’s creatures are guided by a greater force than themselves—all are dependent on each. Intertwined in this great story is Bambi’s growing awareness of the fragility of the forest environment and the impact of human encroachment on all of the forest inhabitants.

Tickets for Hard Bargain Players performances are $12 for adults, $10 for students, seniors and members of the Alice Ferguson Foundation.

Aglaonike’s Tiger at Venus Theatre, Sep 7-Oct 1

Aglaonike’s Tiger at Venus Theatre, Sep 7-Oct 1

AGLAONIKE’S TIGER by Claudia Barnett

September 7 – October 1, 2017
Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 8pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm.

Location: Venus Theatre.

Aglaonike, the first female astronomer, could predict lunar eclipses, but her science was suspect because she was a woman. She therefore billed herself as a sorceress and claimed she could draw down the moon. Inspired by her unsung history, this coming-of-age play follows the protagonist through a series of challenges, both magical and scientific. Drawing on ancient Greek traditions and postmodern performance trends, Aglaonike’s Tiger is stylized and visual and uses puppets and masks to explore political, ecological, and scientific themes.

Tickets are $40 or $20 for Friend of Venus. Buy tickets here.

Follies is an affectionate, melodious and in-depth reflection upon life and American musical theater. It’s 1971 and Dimitri Weissmann is hosting a reunion of his ex-Follies performers. We watch them as they relive the follies from their past and create new ones along the way. This lively reunion is a large ensemble show with excellent songs and dances for lead, supporting and featured performers.
