Children of Eden is the story of the creation as told through the eyes of our narrators, The Storytellers. It tells of Adam and Eve and their relationship with Father (God) and their ultimate expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The story continues through the births of Cain and Abel and that historic battle. The second act takes place generations later with Noah and his family, and their challenges in building the Ark and obeying Father’s will.

The music and lyrics are written by Stephen Schwartz. Famed composer/lyricist of Godspell, Pippin, Wicked, Working, and Rags.
Book by John Caird
Based on a concept by Charles Lisanby

Produced by 2nd Star Productions
Directed/Choreographed by Vincent Musgrave
Music Direction by Joe Biddle

Please come prepared with 32 bars of music in the style of the show, that best shows your vocal range. A song with a story would be optimal. Looking for how well the story is told and acted. Sheet music only, no CD’s please. Be prepared to move as well. Please bring a list of conflicts and possible conflicts.

All roles open to all races and ethnic backgrounds. This is a key component of the production. We urge all ethnically diverse actors/singers/dancers to audition. All roles non-paying.

Heavenly Homeward Bound at Joe’s Movement Emporium, June 21-22

Heavenly Homeward Bound at Joe’s Movement Emporium, June 21-22

Location: Joe’s Movement Emporium

Saturday, June 21 at 2:00pm and at 8:00pm
Sunday, June 22 at 6:00pm

Description: Heavenly Homeward Bound (HHB) is an original gospel play written by Carl Butcher and first presented in November of 1978.

This outstanding production, “an inspirational mirror of truth,” now returns refreshingly revitalized and reimagined as a gospel musical theatre presentation. The message is still the same, in that it is still for all individuals on life’s journey who strive to stay on course as they move forward and upward, with heaven in their view! HHB is one of Carl Butcher’s “tell it like it tis” signature works among the body of works he has written, directed and staged since 1977.

This new revival production is illustrated through his new, faith-based arts ministry theatre fellowship known as ArtStry. Through a team of gifted and versatile portrayers, danceterpreters, vocalists and instrumentalists, this message comes alive onstage. This enactment is about a train, a heaven-bound train, that evolves during a Sunday morning church service, traveling toward the direction of a promise of eternal joy, peace and love. However, the price of admission is a flawless ticket for each passenger, though the price has already been paid!

Tickets: $20. Buy on-line.

Audition Workshop by 2nd Star at All Saints Lutheran Church, June 14 at 2pm

FREE Audition Workshop
Saturday June 14, 2014 at 2pm

2nd Star Productions

In advance of auditions for our upcoming production of Children of Eden, 2nd Star will be holding a free audition workshop on Saturday, June 14th. The workshop will go from 2 to 4 p.m. and will be at All Saints Lutheran Church, address 16510 Mt Oak Rd, Bowie, MD 20716. During the first section of the workshop, participants will learn basics of singing auditions including vocal and performance techniques. The second part of the workshop will cover dance and movement for musical theater auditions. Participants will learn some basic dance steps and a short routine, and discuss which elements of the routine and movement are most important during a dance audition.

Come prepared to move and, if possible, bring a 32 bar section of audition music to practice. Note that this workshop is not a requirement for Children of Eden auditions nor is it limited to only people who intend to audition for the show. It is a more general audition preparation workshop, but would also be good practice for those coming out for Children of Eden. Please e-mail 2ndStarBowie@gmail.com with any questions.
