University Orchestra

Thursday, May 9, 2024 • 8PM

Venue: Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

Venture into the “haunted” corridors of the Paris Opera House as the University Orchestra brings one of the most iconic musicals to the concert hall for their final performance of the year. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera tells the tale of a young opera star and the mysterious masked figure who becomes obsessed with her. The longest-running show on Broadway, the musical is presented here by full orchestra and narration.

This program has something for everyone, including orchestral masterworks, opera and musical theatre.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: selections from The Nutcracker
Carl Maria von Weber: Der Freischütz Overture
Camille Saint-Saens: Danse Macabre
Andrew Lloyd Weber: Symphonic Suite from Phantom of the Opera

Led by students of the graduate conducting studio, UOrch (formerly UMRO) is a unique orchestra of musicians from across campus that performs four full concerts each season. Repertoire varies based on instrumentation and consists of works for both chamber and full orchestra.

Location: Bowie Center for the Performing Arts.

Life Interrupted is a 2023 drama stage play written, directed, and produced by Elder Chanté Thompson. During Mental Health Awareness Month, we will shed light on mental health challenges and overcoming those obstacles. Meet seven patients who learn how to heal spiritually while dealing with their mental health obstacles.

This play’s story is told from inside a mental health institution by mental health patients who describe their pain and struggle. One suffers from PTSD, another is bipolar, another has schizophrenia, another has an eating disorder, another has dissociative disorder, and another has depression. In a world where mental health challenges are on the rise, meet this phenomenal cast as they deliver an exceptional dramatic performance and help our community understand, work through, and recover from this nationwide crisis.

The play stars Kaneya Morgan, Marcus Davis, Lorrie Davis, Nick Gamble, Chanale Taylor, Nadia Palacios, Kevin (CJ) Harrison, Cornelius Wyatt, Edward Crews, Robin Willingham, Octavia Latrice, Howard Lee, Maurice Lee, Anissa Stewart, Freddie Simmons, Rachel Johnson, and Khloe’ Holbert.
