This performance is part of our Education on Stage Series and is recommended for Grades K-6. Genius comes in all shapes and sizes, and Black History is filled with amazing inventors, artists and thinkers who changed the world. This show focuses on the brilliance of over a dozen amazing characters from Black History: Scientists like surgeon Daniel Hale Williams, mathematicians like Dorothy Vaughan, Literary Geniuses like Ralph Ellison and Maya Angelou, and artistic geniuses like Alvin Ailey. Learn about these geniuses and inspire your young audiences to discover their own genius. Please note, everyone must have a ticket to enter, regardless of age. Enjoy this concert version of the Broadway hit “Showboat” by composer Jerome Kern and lyrics by Rogers and Hammerstein, based on the ASALH 2025 theme of Blacks and Labor. Featuring Grammy award-winning Black classical singers, chorus, and dancers, the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) production highlights hit musical selections including “Ol’ Man River” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man.” Also highlighted as a part of the show is CAAPA’s version of the famous “Cakewalk”…so remember to bring your own hat, bring your fans, and be a part of the fun!

Don’t miss this sophisticated-yet-ridiculous, family-friendly, clown circus from Happenstance Theater! A quintet of charming vintage clowns become circus animals, transform into a human calliope, do the classic circus mirror routine with a twist, perform a several preposterous “entrees”, make live music and sound effects, and execute a very satisfying slow-motion number involving a pie! This show is recommended for children ages 3-12. Please note everyone must have a ticket to enter, regardless of age.
