Under what circumstances can a society skew their morality for comfort and personal gain? Set in the fictitious town of Güllen, experience the story of a woman’s revenge on a community that cast her out when she was pregnant and impoverished. This allegorical dark comedy features a village of citizens—set into motion as a mob of dancing birds, whose sweeping murmurations turn ferocious. The play arcs from absurdist to barbarous in order to question what happens when civil ethics, personal morality, patriarchal rule, justice and democracy go amok.

What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life?

Survivor Love Letter is a movement for survivors of sexual assault and their allies to publicly celebrate their lives. Started by filmmaker and activist Tani Ikeda in 2012 on the anniversary of her rape, #SurvivorLoveLetter has rippled out to become a hashtag, a letter writing campaign, and a viral social movement. In this workshop, facilitated by Tani, you will have an opportunity to tell your story in the form of a poem, a personal monologue, a letter to yourself, a song, or whatever comes to mind. This workshop is being presented in connection with “A body, home,” which is a multimedia, intergenerational dance piece on sexual violence performed in the back of a moving truck. Performances of the dance will be part of NextNOW Fest on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, and will incorporate excerpts of letters written during this workshop.
