As the star of his own musical autobiography, comedian/musician/storyteller Ahamefule J.Oluo is electrifying. Part experimental pop opera for 17-piece orchestra and part comedic storytelling piece, Now I’m Fine is compellingly energetic, blending original music with darkly comic personal monologues about illness, despair and regeneration. A virtuosic performance by vocalist okanomodé further illuminates this deeply relatable story that ranges from epic to intimate. Oluo’s storytelling was recently featured on This American Life. He is the founder of the hard-jazz quartet Industrial Revelation, and has collaborated with Macklemore, Das Racist, Hey Marseilles and many others.

Cecily and Gwendolyn know that the only really safe name for a suitable suitor is Earnest. But Algy and Jack, the two blundering suitors who set out to woo them, don’t let a little detail like that stand in their way. The main thing standing in their way is the formidable Lady Bracknell, who is intent on ensuring everything is properly buttoned up. Alas, the game of Victorian-era courting goes hilariously awry in this beloved classic comedy of manners.

An innocent boy, son to a family of goat herders, is found to be heir to the kingdom. Riches and luxury are laid at his feet, but at what cost to others?

This world premiere musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Young King,” by Martin Hennessy with libretto by Tom Rowan, addresses human rights and social justice issues directly relevant to contemporary wealth and income inequality struggles. Performed by Maryland Opera Studio (MOS) artists.

Hennessy is the winner of the inaugural Opera Composition Contest, a joint effort between MOS and the Artist Partner Program to support the cultivation and performance of new work.

As part of an ongoing dedication to cultivating and performing new work, the Maryland Opera Studio (MOS) and the Artist Partner Program partnered for the first annual Opera Composition Contest for a new work reading to be performed by the singers of the MOS. This world premiere performance will feature the winning composition.

In 1936, 70 years after the legal end of slavery in the United States, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt approved a historical research project commissioned by the Library of Congress. The goal of this enormous project was to locate and interview African Americans who had been born into slavery during the early to mid-1800s.

More than 2,300 former slaves were interviewed; survivors of one of this country’s darkest periods. Their stories became what are now known as the WPA Slave Narratives. Several of these incredible stories are brought to life in the original stage production “Voices in the Dark.”

Silencio Blanco explores voice through the power of silence in a world where corporate greed feeds corruption. A young man is thrown out of the coal pit where he works, and in a precarious attempt to protect his livelihood and support his family, takes on a new job in the infamously sinister mine El Chiflón del Diablo. Meanwhile, a community copes with this danger in its midst and the uncertainty it sparks in their every day lives. Performing in complete silence using minimalistic marionettes, puppetry ensemble Silencio Blanco spins a universal story of humanity in the face of hardship, highlighting those who are often forgotten behind sensational headlines.
