Quicker Than The Eye

He was a prestidigitator beyond compare. The Amazing Roberto Clappini built a reputation for performing card tricks that could deceive even the most well-trained eye. His latest trick was proclaimed to be one that would take the art of sleight of hand to a new level. The trick was always performed with cards manufactured by Svengesi’s Strong Suits, the Bulgarian company that is known worldwide for its outstanding product. Clappini swore by the cards’ quality and refused to consider using any other brand. Now, though, Svengesi’s renown has taken a hit – struck by the same blow that killed Clappini after last night’s performance at Finger Lake. But, authorities have a clue about the identity of the murderer, or to be more accurate, a handful of clues. For before he died, Clappini had the strength and wherewithal to pull several cards from the deck and attempt to tell authorities what happened. It would take skill and investigative expertise to identify the perpetrator of the crime – and to deal out a hand that could only be described as a “royal flush.”

The Plot Leading Up to Murder in Hulas and Homicide:

She was known as the Hula Honcho. Winnie Waheli was the head judge at the annual hula contest on Kikiwai Beach. Once regarded as the most-accomplished dancer in all of Hawaii, Winnie’s career abruptly ended two decades ago when one of her more strenuous moves produced a recurring medical problem that prevented her from ever competing again professionally.
That’s when she was hired by the Kikiwai Queen Hotel to organize and orchestrate the hula event. Each year, Winnie made a point of meeting the competitors and talking to the press, all the while ensuring that she was the center of attention.
Tonight would have been the night that Winnie and this year’s hula extravaganza would once again make headlines. But all is not well in paradise, for someone must have taken exception to Winnie’s overbearing antics. This morning, her lifeless body was found on the very beach where she had achieved both fame and fortune, the seeming victim of foul play.
Who would dare end the career of the maven of movement? Could someone have plotted the death of the darling of divatude? Or, was this just the result of a temper tantrum by a close associate? It would take a unique perspective and expert investigative skills to identify the guilty party.

The Plot Leading Up to Murder In
The Curse of the Comet!

It is September 17, 1945
A gathering occurred last night at Highview, the secluded Beverly Hills estate of movie star Maurice Mason and his wife, Dianna Darien – one that proved to be both intriguing and tragic. For, this morning, the body of Maurice’s twin brother, famed archaeologist Myron Mason, was found draped across the thorn bushes that grow in profusion around the grounds.

The death added a morbid punctuation to an event that had been conceived as a lark – a gathering to disprove an ancient curse. For, last night also, the comet Hopkay made its first appearance in the heavens in 400 years.
The celestial messenger was last seen the year that the native Central American leader, Hopkay, met an untimely demise. His people, the Intecs, interred him in a tomb which, they proclaimed, must be untouched for all time.

Yet, 10 years ago, Myron Mason found the tomb and robbed it of its treasures. An inscription on the wall of the crypt proclaimed that whoever desecrated the spot would be cursed. When the comet named after Hopkay reappeared in the heavens, the desecration would be revenged.

The motley group of attendees toasted the archaeologist as the comet entered the solar system. Was the curse a remnant of an ancient religion, or the uneducated ramblings of a primitive people? The answer would soon be apparent – and deadly obvious.

Bowie Community Theatre Murder Mystery Theatre presents:
The Cat Screamed at Midnight

The Plot Leading Up to Murder: It is October 31, 1936.

At the English country estate, Conifers, Sir Hugo Smythe Armbruster’s 70th party took place last night. Sir Hugo had been knighted after The Great War for his contributions to the war effort. His brilliant sense of both history and propriety established him as an able publisher whose newspaper, The Daily Truth, kept the citizenry informed of what was happening at the front. The assembled guests celebrated the birthday with enough food and drink to choke the proverbial horse. But, it seems, the horse may have fought back. This morning, Sir Hugo was found dead in the stables. Although the death was at first viewed to be accidental, Scotland Yard took little time in declaring that, indeed, evidence pointed toward murder.

The old gentleman had been a cat fancier, priding himself in the rare breeds that freely roam the grounds of Conifers. It was said that he preferred cats to humans. He had even threatened to leave his vast fortune to The Royal Feline Society rather than have his millions squandered by “fools and scoundrels.” One could only imagine what surprises would unfold when the will is read.
