Fur is the story of Citrona, a hirsute young woman who is purchased by Michael at a sideshow to be his bride. Michael has a fetish for animals and runs a pet shop in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles which has become a giant sand pit. He hires Nena, an animal trapper to catch and bring food to the caged Citrona. But Citrona falls in love with Nena who’s in love with Michael. A tragi-comic triangular retelling of the Beauty & the Beast where the beast wins.

The classic story about tilting with windmills and reaching the unreachable star, set in a Spanish dungeon in the 16th century. Don Quixote de la Mancha’s quest for honor and right in a world gone mad is deeply moving but laced with humor and superb music.

Performances run weekends from Friday February 26, 2016 through Sunday March 20, 2016 with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. Tickets are $23 for general admission. Auditions for Fur will be held at the Venus Theatre in Laurel, MD on Saturday, January 23, and Sunday, January 24 at 2pm.

Auditions run Saturday Jan 23, 2016 and Sunday Jan 24, 2016 from 2-6 on the half hours. Please include desired auditioned date and time in your email.

Fur will be the first installation in the Sweet 16: Groovy Young Things season at Venus Theatre.

Rehearsal: February 15 – March 16. Mon-Fri weeknight rehearsals with possible Saturday workshop

Production: March 17 – April 10, 2016 – Th, Fri, Sat at 8 and Sat, Sun at 3. Actor call is one hour before performance.
