THE NEW DEAL NUT: A GREENBELT NUTCRACKER

Greenbelt Dance Studio, a program of the Greenbelt Department of Recreation, presents an original production inspired by holiday favorite, The Nutcracker. Set in Greenbelt past and present, the New Deal Nut: A Greenbelt Nutcracker features a range of dance styles including ballet, jazz, tap, and contemporary, performed by a talented cast of dancers from elementary through high school.

The spirit of the most wonderful time of year is overflowing in this hysterical Christmas-wrapped comedy packed with sing-along holiday songs. Two zany and lovable elves, Scrunchie and Bangles, have accidentally misplaced some of Santa’s presents. When Santa finds out, he teaches the well-meaning elves that the real gift of the season are the people and friends we celebrate it with.

Rescued from thrift shops and garage sales, these charming group puppets were given a new lease on life when Bob Brown transformed them from cast off toys into lovable puppet friends. Goonie Bird Gertrude, tap dancing bugs Bingo and Bob, and Snirdley and his Scooter are just a few of the recycled pals in this performance that is so much more than a puppet show.
