Pinot is the authoritarian clown in fancy clothes and a white cone hat. Augustine is the appealing red-nosed bumbler who punctures his pomposity. Their show bubbles over with physical comedy, virtuosity, and musical surprises from the sublime to the ridiculous.PINOT & AUGUSTINE have appeared all over the world and are a hit with audiences of every age, from every walk of life.

Joe’s Movement Emporium and Creative Suitland are committed to laying the groundwork for a shift in our world, as we know it. The fight for equality and “justice for all” continues here, in our community. The Joe’s Family is inspired with renewed focus on providing cultural experiences through an antiracist lens. Our staff remains vigilant in creating programs that will combat economic, political, and structural disparities in minority communities. We are working to unveil new antiracist programs and partnerships that will help the community tackle the large task at hand. We hope to present some tough questions to spark some very necessary conversations. Through candid conversations and creative community work, we aim to support the movement towards a better world.

If beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, then the person who is observing gets to decide what is beautiful. This Arts Citizenship Talk evaluates what it means to make a dance about hardship and struggle under the gaze of whiteness. Dance iconoclast Botis Seva and his UK-based dance company Far From The Norm doggedly explore the individual psyche and the sociopolitical soul through their works. Through them, they also strive to understand what humans do to persevere.

From themes of racial violence and cultural appropriation to multiculturalism and gender equality, the work of The Clarice’s 2020-21 visiting artists is complex, provocative and deeply sensitive. Arts Citizenship Talks (ACTnow) are opportunities to hear from these artists about the issues reflected in their works. These conversations are an invitation to act now!

Artist Engagement on Campus and in the Community: Throughout Fall 2020, Botis Seva and members of Far From The Norm will virtually visit students in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies to discuss their work and choreographic technique.

This event is part of The Clarice’s BlackLight Summit.

Shakespeare in the Parks 2020 is an exciting virtual experience! The Tragedy of Macbeth is presented as an hour-long audio drama set among the gangs of New York of the 1860s, a turbulent time during the American Civil War, with domestic unrest in the streets of the city. The classic story stays the same: the tragic hero Macbeth stumbles upon three witches in the sewers, who fill his head with the prophecy of being the “king hereafter.” Murder, mayhem, and a grab for power consume the Macbeths, as they rise and fall during their short reign.

Appropriate for middle school ages and above.
