The classic children’s work Peter and the Wolf has thrilled audiences for almost 90 years. Whether it’s your first journey into the forest or you’re bringing your whole family on the tale, this is a show for everyone! For this Sunday fairytale matinee. the National Orchestral Institute + Festival invites curious listeners to come close and witness each of Prokofiev’s timeless characters leap to instrumental life: Peter on the strings, cat as clarinet, the wobbly oboe of a duck and the growling menace of the wolf as french horns. Presented in The Clarice’s Grand Pavilion, with ample seating for grown-ups and space on the stairs for children, NOI+F’s rendition of Peter and the Wolf is sure to gift young ears with the joy of music for a lifetime. Kids and parents are invited to join us early for specially themed youth activities, including visual art workshops and mask making.

The 2PM presentation will include ASL interpretation.

Registration fee is $65.00 and should be paid at our first meetings/rehearsals (6/7 , 6/8, and 6/9). Individual forms must be submitted for each participant, even for members of the same family. The $65 fee covers participation, a show t-shirt, a show DVD, and a cast party. This fee also entitles each participant to one(1) complimentary ticket to the show.*

On Saturday, 6/7, 11am-1pm, participants will learn two audition songs and a short dance combination. On Sunday, 6/8, 5-7pm, participants will audition for various parts in the show using the songs and the dance they learned. On Monday, 6/9, 5:30-8:00pm, parts will announced and rehearsals begin.

Black Comedy is a one-act farce by Peter Shaffer, first performed in 1965. The premise of the piece is that light and dark are transposed, so that when the stage is lit the cast are supposed to be in darkness and only when the stage is dark are they supposed to be able to see each other and their surroundings.

Ticket prices are as follows:
Adults: $20, Children 18 and under, Seniors 65 and over, and active duty military: $15; special price includes dinner at Olive on Main on June 15: $45 and $40.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Tickets for shows at Bowie Playhouse are $29.00 for General Admission, $26.00 for seniors (60 and over), military and full time students, and $18 for Children 11 and under. Buy tickets here.
