The Maryland Opera Studio presents Weill’s Street Scene, a work that brilliantly combines elements of opera and musical theater and that is widely acknowledged as one of the composer’s masterpieces. Set in a crowded tenement in 1940s New York City, the opera portrays life among a diverse group of working-class immigrants and the climactic events of one sweltering summer day. Based on a story by Elmer Rice with lyrics by Langston Hughes, Street Scene addresses social justice issues, race and the complexity of human relationships.

Sung in English with supertitles.

Auditions for Teen Performance Ensemble and Children’s Theater, Apr 8 & 10

Auditions for:
Teen Performance Ensemble & Children’s Theater

Are you a teen, age 16 or older who loves to act, sing, and dance and wants hands-on experience performing in front of live audiences? Our Teen Performance Ensemble and Prince George’s Children’s Theater were designed just for you.

Since 1996, the Teen Performance Ensemble has provided on-the-job training in musical theater skills to aspiring actors of high school age. In 2000, Prince George’s Children’s Theatre was established to give more teen performers the opportunity to earn money during the summer, while enhancing their abilities in acting, singing, and dance.

These two theater companies present original, one-act musical plays, written by local playwrights and directed by theatrical professionals, to children enrolled in M-NCPPC’s Summer Playgrounds and Camps. Over 100 performances are scheduled through the summer months. Graduates of these two troupes have gone on to study at some of the premier drama departments in the nation. From there, they have become professional actors, radio personalities, playwrights and theatrical directors. Auditions are open in the Spring to any student 16 years of age or older. If selected, actors will earn an hourly wage while providing live entertainment for their younger peers and gaining valuable experience.

Teens, ages 16-19, who love acting, singing, and dancing, are invited to FREE auditions for summer jobs in the performing arts. Those selected will perform in a one-act, live musical production at M-NCPPC Summer Playgrounds and camps during June and July 2019. Attend the audition nearest your home. Prepare a one-minute monologue and an up-tempo song or dance. No appointment is necessary. For more information contact Performing Arts Specialist Christel Stevens at 301-446-3238.
