Auditions for Taratibu Youth Association at Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mar 21

Taratibu Youth Association is a young people’s performing arts company that focuses on African and African American culture. We use traditional and contemporary songs, dance and movement to teach principles of community building, self-determination, and spirituality.

Taratibu Youth Association holds auditions twice a year in the spring and fall.

The next auditions are being held March 21, 2015, 12:00 – 4:00pm.

Ideally auditioning youth should be strong vocalists and experienced in dance, however, no previous experience is necessary. Youth interested in auditioning should be between 11-18 years old.

What to bring: artistic resume listing any training and performance experiences

Youth auditions should include three well-rehearsed performance pieces:
Dance or step
Song
Poem or monologue

Youth should be prepared to present each piece as a solo dressed to dance and/or move with athletic shoes.

Dead Man Walking is a 2002 play written by Tim Robbins based on Dead Man Walking, a book by Sister Helen Prejean about her experiences as a chaplain on death row.

“Dead Man Walking” will be presented by the DeMatha Players on March 20 – March 22, at the Bowie Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $5 and will be available in the Stag Store beginning on Monday, March 16. This play is for mature audiences only. It is a student/faculty production. The show is likely to sell out.

Sr. Helen Prejean, C.S.J., will be presenting a program at DeMatha on her ministry against the death penalty.
