The Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division Presents the Prince George’s Summer Shakespeare Festival.

Much Ado About Nothing – Prince George’s Shakespeare in the Parks
Vicious Rumors. Reluctant Rivals. And The Triumphant Power of Love.

A fun-filled comedy, featuring Beatrice and Benedick, the witty rivals whose secret love for each other is revealed when they come to the rescue of Claudio and Hero, whose wedding has been sabotaged by the nefarious Don John. Set on the picturesque island of Sicily, this traveling production will feature live musicians playing a blend of traditional Italian music as well as original numbers composed from Shakespeare’s text.

Set all across America in the 1920’s, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born, Arthur Laurents’ landmark show explores the world of two-bit show business with brass, humor, heart, and sophistication. The celebrated score, by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, boasts one glorious hit after another, including: “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “You’ll Never Get Away from Me,” “If Momma Was Married,” “All I Need Is the Girl,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “You Gotta Get A Gimmick,” “Small World,” and “Together Wherever We Go.”

2nd Star Productions performing at the Bowie Playhouse

Based on the 2001 romantic comedy film, Amélie is the story of an extraordinary young woman who lives quietly in the world but loudly in her mind. She covertly improvises small but surprising acts of kindness that bring joy and mayhem. But when a chance at love comes her way, Amélie realizes that to find happiness she’ll have to risk everything and say what’s in her heart. Be inspired by this imaginative dreamer who finds her voice, discovers the power of connection, and sees possibility around every corner!

Performances will be August 9-24, 2019 at the Bowie Playhouse.

Those who wish to audition may attend either the Tuesday or Thursday dates. Please keep Friday night clear in case you are called back. If you are needed for callbacks, you will be notified by phone and/or email by Friday at 10 AM.

Regular rehearsals will be held on Tuesday nights (7 – 10 PM), Thursday nights (7 – 10 PM), and Saturdays (11 AM – 3 PM). Not all actors will be required for all regular rehearsals. Technical rehearsals run each weeknight and each weekend day from August 3 through 8.

Performances are August 9 through 24, Fridays through Sundays, at the Bowie Playhouse in Bowie, MD (16500 Whitemarsh Park Drive, Bowie, MD). Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 PM, and Sundays are at 3 PM. Our closing performance on Saturday, August 24 is a 3 PM matinee.
