This novel play permits the audience to act as a jury and vote whether Barbara Scott on trial for the murder of Chester Arthur Brant is innocent or guilty. The cause of Barbara Scott, defended by her attractive lawyer sister Edith and prosecuted by dynamic Allan Woodward, seems hopeless at the outset. Step by step, Allan relentlessly builds the case against her, including her purported confession and the dramatic testimony of Brant’s fiancee who claims she saw Barbara in almost the very act of firing the fatal shot. Edith doggedly fights back and she is finally rewarded when help arrives from a totally unexpected source. Conflict and tension build until the audience renders its verdict.

Performances will be held at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts. Friday, October 21 at 7 PM, Saturday, October 22 at 7 PM and Sunday, October 23 at 2 PM. Tickets $5 at the door.

‘Night Mother reading at Bowie State University, Oct 20

Coffee, Tea, and Classics: Reading and Discussion Series: ‘Night, Mother
October 20, 2016 7:30pm

Parental Advisory: Recommended for high school students and above.

Delve into an intellectual reading and discussion of the classic drama ‘Night, Mother by Marsha Norman. Student director Sophie Barden will transport you to a living room and kitchen of a small house on an isolated country road. There you will meet Jessie, whose father is dead, whose loveless marriage ended in divorce, whose absent son is a petty thief and ne’er-do-well, and whose last job didn’t work out and, in general, whose life is stale and unprofitable. All of which lead her to ask her mother for her father’s service revolver and calmly announces that she intends to kill herself.

After the reading, there will be a panel discussion on suicide prevention and awareness.

This event is hosted by the BSU chapter of Alpha Psi Omega and BSU Theatre.

Fine and Performing Arts Center, Black Box Theatre, Bowie State University.
