Bowie Community Theatre (BCT) Youth Theatre Program presents their first production with the fun musical that continues to bring the beat throughout the state and country! Hairspray JR is the youth adaptation of the award-winning musical based on the John Waters’ movie, “Hairspray” that follows the changes in America in the 1960s through the communities of Baltimore, Maryland.

Join Tracy Turnblad, Motormouth Maybelle, Corny Collins, Amber Van Tussle, Link Larkin and the whole gang for this wonderful show brought to you by BCT and a grant from the City of Bowie Arts Programs.

Baba Jamal Koram: The Story Man. Master storyteller Baba Jamal Koram shares the history, humor, music, and lore of African and African-American cultures. Blending traditional and contemporary storytelling techniques with drumming, movement, call and response, and playful wit, his stories encourage children to care for our earth and its animals and believe in the good in everyone. From beginning to end, audiences are inspired by these tales and have fun following Baba Jamal’s lead. Recipient of the Circle of Excellence Award, Baba Jamal has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian museums, National Black Storytelling Festival, regional festivals, and schools nationwide.

Exciting science experiments from the lab of Professor Parsnip reinforce healthy habits and good character traits. Interactive and fun, this production features a lots of fun and interesting science experiments.

Location: Joe’s Movement Emporium

Learn the skills necessary to excel on stage or screen for projection, relaxation, movement, terminology, character study, improve, blocking, marketing yourself, memorization and so much more! The Junior Academy for the Performing Arts is a seasonal program focused on the fundamentals of voice, acting, and musical theatre movement (dance). Through these disciplines, the students will grow in their confidence, teambuilding, problem solving, as well as artistic knowledge and skills. Led by distinguished and well trained instructors, the students will learn proper technique in a fun, safe environment and gain the experience of creating, learning and performing an end of season show for friends and family. This course will be held at Joe’s Movement Emporium located at: 3309 Bunker Hill Road Mount Rainier, MD 20712.
