This liberating and thought-provoking choreography combines visual art and dance, and shows images of the people of Flint, Michigan in order to draw attention to a problem that is not only happening in Flint, but all around the United States.

Another Side of You
by Allen Chunhui Xing

Another Side of You explores the inner struggles that many face conforming to society expectations.

Akwantuo: The Journey
by Mustapha Braimah

Akwantuo: The Journey is a piece about immigrants and their experiences living in the United States, exploring what it means to acquire a visa and make the journey across national and cultural borders. The struggles, difficulties, frustrations and the wait will all be magnified. The piece combines traditional African, contemporary and Ghanaian dance theater to elaborate this difficult subject.

This performance will take place in the Dance Theatre and the Grand Pavilion. Please note that non-traditional audience seating may be used for this event.

Shots are fired in a school house, and the world seems to stop. A stunned community — teachers, parents, friends, families of the victims and the perpetrators — must find a way to keep living their lives. This lyrical and potent drama explores the aftermath of a school shooting in an Amish community, and the path of forgiveness and compassion forged in its wake. This play was inspired by the tragic 2006 shooting at an Amish school in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Tickets: General Public $25, Student/Youth $10, NextLEVEL $20. Buy tickets here.

Now I’m Fine
Ahamefule J. Oluo
Friday, February 17, 2017 . 8PM

Fri, Feb 17, 2017 . 8:00PM

Venue: Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Milkboy+ArtHouse, general admission.

As the star of his own musical autobiography, comedian/musician/storyteller Ahamefule J.Oluo is electrifying. Part experimental pop opera for 17-piece orchestra and part comedic storytelling piece, Now I’m Fine is compellingly energetic, blending original music with darkly comic personal monologues about illness, despair and regeneration. A virtuosic performance by vocalist okanomodé further illuminates this deeply relatable story that ranges from epic to intimate. Oluo’s storytelling was recently featured on This American Life. He is the founder of the hard-jazz quartet Industrial Revelation, and has collaborated with Macklemore, Das Racist, Hey Marseilles and many others.

Tickets: General Public $25, Student/Youth $10, NextLEVEL $20. Buy tickets here.
