DANCE AS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN IT. Ballet Theatre of Maryland ends its 2013-2014 at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA.) in April. Journey with BTM on a daring trip to the Edges and Dimensions of Contemporary Dance, where you will experience the power and capability of American Dance to create award-winning, innovative works like the jazz based Primal Dreams, or the lyrical, emotionally packed Collage. Set to music by composers from the worlds of popular rock, folk, Celtic and jazz music, this performance will transport you into the present and future, where dance, like all art forms is constantly evolving to higher levels of emotion, relevance, passion, and beauty. This evening length performance blends dance, movement, music, soundscapes, spoken word, and percussion in a metaphorical, non-linear narrative which explores the quest for Freedom – both historically, with regards to civil rights, and on a personal level, encouraging a continual journey of self-liberation. Why do we have conflicts? How do we resolve them? What choices do we make? In what ways do we hold ourselves back? How can we embody Freedom, every day?

Description: How do you cope when everything you’ve learned begins falling apart? Sam Mauceri’s original work Seagirl utilizes theatre, dance and movement to explore a young woman’s attempts at unpacking her own prejudices in a world that wishes she wouldn’t. Feminist punk music and a longing for radical ideas invade a culture of conventionality in this partnership between The School of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies and The Weekday Players.
