The Vietnam War’s legacy lives on more than 40 years after its end. Emmy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated composer-performer Vanessa Vân Ánh Võ melds traditional Vietnamese instruments with spoken word and live media to explore the deeply moving story of Vietnam’s war refugees: “Boat People.” In this multi-sensory experience, she triggers memories of the ocean carrying them from Vietnam to freedom.

Description: Electric cellist-composer Wytold blends classical techniques with live looping to create interactive musical adventures featuring inventive remixes and original works. By exploring the relationship between the science of waves and musical scales, students learn how basic patterns in the world can create exciting and dynamic music. This production from Artivate has students interact to use their new knowledge to create a short musical piece together as a group.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.

Produced by special arrangement with MTI International. Performances run weekends from Friday November 23, 2018 through Sunday December 16, 2018 with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 for general admission.
