Rockbridge Academy presents their 2016 musical production, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown! The musical will be performed February 25-27, 2016. For those of you who are not familiar with the musical version of this beloved comic, you are in for a great treat. This musical majors in laughter, simplicity, friendship, and childhood – all infused with the ageless wisdom of Charles Schultz. Broadway audiences loved the 1999 revival version, and the show was nominated in 14 categories for the Tonys that year. We will be performing the 1999 version for our very own audiences, and it is appropriate and fun for all ages from preschool to great-grandparents!

Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $13 for children 12 and under.

Tickets may be purchased at the box office 1 hour before each show or online at: https://www.rockbridge.org/ticket-sales

Location: Joe’s Movement Emporium

Sunday Feb. 7, 2016 at 4 pm Zerkalo Musical Theater’s theatrical music and dance production, “The Star Child” based on the story by the famous English author Oscar Wilde, comes to Joe’s. As part of Joe’s mission to present accessible and affordable arts experiences to the community, Joe’s has partnered with the McLean, VA based Russian company to offer their free of charge to children. Adult tickets are $5, all children 12 and under are welcome for free. An adult must accompany all children. Tickets are limited.

Joe’s own Arts Education Director LaTanya Robinson introduced Zerkalo (“mirror” in Russian) Musical Theater’s founder and director Alexey and Olga Predit to Joe’s Movement Emporium back in September of 2015. The theater group and Joe’s partnered to bring their winter production of “The Star Child” to Joe’s community at a significantly reduced price. In order to make productions like this work, Joe’s is reliant on loyal donors whose dollars ensure arts education has a home a Joe’s. Joe’s will have an opportunity for donations at the event.

About “The Star Child”

Zerkalo Musical Theater first presented the Star Child in Russian at the 5th International Festival of the Russian Speaking Children’s Theaters. Our actors won prizes for the best male and female lead roles. The Theater won the nomination for the best expression of humanistic values. The script along with the original Russian songs was translated into English almost entirely by the young actors.

This story is about the Star-Child whose beauty has caused him to grow proud, cruel, and selfish. He denies that an ugly beggar woman is his mother. Learning he is wrong, he vows to search for her throughout the world. This story is about transformative power of determination, love, and compassion.

Tickets: $5 for adults, children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. For more info, visit the website or call 301-699-1819.

Hop on your flying carpet, because this musical parody retells the classic tale of Aladdin… from the villain’s point of view! Long ago in a Magic Kingdom, one misunderstood Royal Vizier will go on a quest to save his city from its bumbling sultan, an invading prince, and the most notorious thief to ever live! With the help of the Kingdom’s free-spirited, teenage Princess, the Vizier must find a magical lamp containing a wish-granting Djinn (who’s really funny, by the way) and defeat the city’s most-wanted criminal… Aladdin! This musical adventure celebrates and lovingly pokes fun at everyone’s favorite series of hand-drawn, animated films.

Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door. Advance tickets will be sold at the school during all lunches.

Opening Weekend performances of Zombie Prom ARE CANCELLED

Given the predicted extreme blizzard event bearing down on the Mid-Atlantic region, and for the safety of our patrons, cast, and crew, Greenbelt Arts Center is very sorry to say we will be cancelling opening weekend performances of Zombie Prom (Friday 1/22 and Saturday 1/23).

For those who have pre-purchased tickets for this weekend, to the extent possible we will exchange your tickets for another performance during the run of the show at your request. We are looking at the option of adding additional performance dates within the run and will announce those if and when they are finalized.

If for some reason the storm does not materialize or downgrades to something smaller AND safer, we may announce the reinstatement of the Saturday performance.

Please stay safe, everyone.
