Description: The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Division is proud to announce our 10th Anniversary Celebration Tour with the show that started it all, The Tempest, directed by founding Artistic Director Christopher Dwyer. This 1980s-infused tale follows Prospero, who is stranded on a deserted island in the Mediterranean with his daughter Miranda, narrowly escaping his evil brother. He now comes to grips with a life he left behind and whether to enact revenge on his brother who has just washed up on shore. Complete with magic, faeries, and physical storytelling, this fast-paced 90-minute outdoor adventure is perfect for the entire family. Bring your lawn chair, a picnic, and enjoy the Bard under the stars.

The Maryland Shakespeare Players present their Fall 2022 main stage production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night! Join us at the Kogod Theater in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center for an entirely student-run 70’s So-Cal re-imagination of a timeless Shakespearean comedy featuring comments on love, gender roles, and power. Performances will be December 1st and 2nd at 7:30, and December 3rd at 2 and 7pm! No tickets or reservation required! Free to all guests. Donations are accepted! There will be one 15 minute intermission. Recommended for ages 12+. Content Advisory: Simulated Violence, Blood, Intimacy, Sexual Themes and Innuendos throughout.

Experience William Shakespeare’s classic As You Like It, adapted and directed by Eleanor Holdridge, who returns to the UMD School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies after leading a workshop on Sarah Ruhl’s Orlando in 2021 and directing the production of The Call in 2016. What happens when Rosalind and her cousin escape into the forest to find her love Orlando? Disguised as a boy shepherd, the cheeky Rosalind convinces Orlando to woo her. Find out the hilarious consequences in this timeless tale of love and adventure.

War has ended and soldiers return home to forget their sorrows. It looks like love is in the air. Except between Beatrice and Benedick, who are determined not to fall in love and get married even though they can’t help engaging in daily verbal sparring matches with one another. Tricks, mistaken identity, and a clueless night watchman are on the horizon in this “will they/won’t they” comedy that features one of Shakespeare’s wittiest couples.

National Players is a unique ensemble bringing innovative theater to communities large and small across the United States. Founded in 1949, National Players stimulates youthful imagination and critical thinking by presenting classic plays in invigorating ways for modern audiences.
