New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt

On Sunday, January 24 at 2 p.m., Beech Tree Puppets bring their new show, Rainbow Crow Brings Daylight, to the New Deal Café. The show combines two American Indian creation stories from the Lenape and the Inuit tribes. Crow has been revered by many cultures throughout the ages. Follow Crow on his journey to the Sky Spirit, as he saves the animals and then travels to the Land of the Light. The show premiered in December 2015 at Greenbelt Elementary School as part of a two-year artists-in-residency, funded by the PTA, the GES Family Art Fund, and a grant from the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council (PGAHC). This free performance at the New Deal Café is Local Beech Tree Puppets To Perform January 24 sponsored by the Friends of New Deal Café Arts with support from the City of Greenbelt. The show, which is suitable for ages 4 to 104, lasts about 45 minutes. For more information, go to http://newdealcafe.com or http://beechtreepuppets.com.

Zombie Prom at the Greenbelt Arts Center, Jan 22-Feb 13

Opening Weekend performances of Zombie Prom ARE CANCELLED

Given the predicted extreme blizzard event bearing down on the Mid-Atlantic region, and for the safety of our patrons, cast, and crew, Greenbelt Arts Center is very sorry to say we will be cancelling opening weekend performances of Zombie Prom (Friday 1/22 and Saturday 1/23).

For those who have pre-purchased tickets for this weekend, to the extent possible we will exchange your tickets for another performance during the run of the show at your request. We are looking at the option of adding additional performance dates within the run and will announce those if and when they are finalized.

If for some reason the storm does not materialize or downgrades to something smaller AND safer, we may announce the reinstatement of the Saturday performance.

Please stay safe, everyone.

Clown is an evolving art form which celebrates a universal sense of fun. Through performance, workshops, and audience interaction, Clown Cabaret keeps the tradition alive with laughter. During the company’s NextLOOK residency, they will continue developing their newest work. In The Heist, a trio of menacing gangsters conspires to execute the Greatest Robbery of the 21st Century: a piggy bank. A film noir motif carries the story without dialogue, making the show accessible to audiences regardless of language or age. The Heist is a robust physical comedy, with nods to both high and low art ranging from French Surrealism to Bugs Bunny.

Free, or pay what you want.
